A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM OUR FLOAT CREW

Thank you for visiting http://www.irrigationfestival.com your source for all the information you need regarding Washington state's longest continuous running festival!  The Kick-off Dinner is fast approaching and will once again prove to be a fun event for all that attend and for those that bid for auction items online.  One of the items upon which you can bid is the "Fund-A-Float".  Monies raised from this bidding category are used to pay for the construction of our Irrigation Festival float.  Our royal court will travel to as many as 17 different community festival events throughout Western Washington and will ride upon our community float.

The design for the float begins many months before construction, when the festival tag line is chosen.  The primary design concern of the float construction is that of the safety of our royal court, the driver, and the float support team that will be participating in all of the parades.  The float is then designed in accordance with the tag line and story line, which this year is "128 Out the Gate"!  We also want to bring elements of our community to give a sense of what it is like to live here in Sequim.  The float has to be built with durability in mind, as it is loaded and unfolded, and raised, and assembled many times throughout the parade season.  We also like to be competitive when we travel to other festivals, as our royal court and their float are judged, and awards are given in various categories.  Through the years your Sequim royalty and their float have won countless awards including many Grand Sweepstakes awards and even the coveted Light of the Night Award (Best in Show) at Seattle Seafair!  To build an award-winning float takes time, as many as 600 to 1200 volunteer man/woman hours!  All truly a labor of love.

A budget is submitted, and materials are purchased locally, and online (when a product is not available here).  We realize that all monies we use in the construction of the float as well as other activities throughout the festival come from our sponsors, both private citizens and local businesses, and through people like you that participate in our Kick-off Dinner bidding on items, products, and experiences, as well as Fun- A-Float.  We are conscientious and work to be good stewards of the benevolence, support, and the generous donations we receive from everyone, in helping to deliver the Sequim Irrigation Festival year after year...  Your community festival.  We have been doing it for 128 years in a row!  All because of people like you!

Thank you for your continued support!                            The 2023 Float Construction Team
